Chaudhary Ajit Singh’s son, like Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, is building on the family legacy in UP, finds Samarth Saran
JAYANT CHAUDHARY has the appearance of an accidental politician. On the surface he is soft-spoken and sounds technocratic, but it his eloquence, political acumen and family history that make him the wild card in the battle for UP. The 33-year-old first-time Member of Parliament from Mathura and son of Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh has decided to take the plunge into state politics.
“Our party base has been shrinking over the years. It is my desire to go and work from Lucknow and rebuild it in the state,” says Chaudhary who’ll be contesting from the Mat constituency (part of Mathura) this time. The fortunes of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) plunged after the death of Jayant’s grandfather Charan Singh, who was the fifth prime minister of the country and twice chief minister of UP. RLD, now restricted to Jatdominated western UP, is contesting 45 seats this time.

मथुरा। छोटे चौधरी अजित सिंह अब केंद्र की राजनीति करेंगेे तो उनके पुत्र सांसद जयंत चौधरी को प्रदेश की राजनीति में उतारा जा रहा है। इसके लिए राष्ट्रीय लोकदल ने जयंत चौधरी को सांसद रहते मांट विधानसभा क्षेत्र से चुनाव मैदान में उतारने की घोषणा कर दी है। गोवर्धन से पार्टी ने ठा. मेघश्याम को प्रत्याशी बनाया है।
