Jayant Chaudhary on tour of all western districts of UP
Soon after his baptism in state politics, Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Ajit Singh's son and Mathura MP Jayant Chaudhary has taken over the command of his party's poll campaign. Already an icon among youth, Jayant is in great demand in Assembly constituencies of western Uttar Pradesh where the RLD-Congress combine is trying hard to garner the support of young voters to get the crucial edge over rivals.
Ever since the campaigning for the Assembly poll started about a month back, Jayant is on a whirlwind tour of all major western districts to interact with youth through his road shows which have been strategically planned by the RLD poll managers. In the last on month, Jayant has addressed far more election meetings than his father, Ajit Singh, who is also Union Civil Aviation Minister. Ajit Singh has confined himself to addressing joint election meetings with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
The political maturity which Jayant has displayed during this short span has come as a pleasant surprise for Ajit Singh, who turned 73 on Sunday. "As Jayant is learning fast how to handle the party's organisational affairs, we hope he gives more time to national politics, a thing he has been aspiring for," said a senior RLD leader considered to be close to Ajit Singh.
Pointing out at Jayant's charisma in the Jatland, he said the party headquarters in Delhi was being flodded with requests for at least one visit of the young leader in all the 45 Assembly constituencies the party is contesting. And, he said, relying on Jayant's understanding of politics of the region, Ajit Singh had left it on him to plan the party's election campaign.
Jayant's entry in the UP politics was marked by him contesting assembly election from Mat segment in Mathura was coincided with departure of Anuradha Chaudhary who was virtually number two in the party since last one decade. In party circles it is being considered that it was Jayant who had pulled curtains on Anuradha episode by denying her a election ticket from Muzaffar Nagar.
Now Jayant is busy with satisfying the young voters who in view of many next generation leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav campaigning in this election are raising an uneasy question, that how long political performance in this country was going to remain hereditary.
Jayant's response to this question is- I believe the leadership skills are not something that can be passed from one generation to the next through a will. The electoral process gives the voters a fair chance to judge the candidates on basis of their vision and decision making.
