Chaudhary Ajit Singh enters Andhra with Telangana unit
In a development with potential to further complicate the political equations in the region, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has announced the setting up of its unit in Telangana. The RLD chief and civil aviation minister Ajit Singh on Sunday declared that his party through the Telangana unit would support the separate Telangana movement. Even in the 2014 elections, the party would focus on Telangana alone and would not spread into other parts of Andhra Pradesh.
A one-time loyalist of TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao and a member of AP’s legislative council K Dilip Kumar would head the RLD activities in Telangana. However, there is a speculation that the RLD’s unit would now attract some pro-Telangana and anti-KCR leaders to take an active part in the movement.
“There are many people not willing to join the TRS, TDP or the Congress but are scouting for a platform to express their pro-Telangana feelings. This new RLD unit would offer such an opportunity at least for some of them,” a source tracking the developments said.
After announcing the formation of the Telangana unit of RLD, Singh swung immediately into action and started deliberations with various prominent individuals playing an active role in the Telangana movement. What is also interesting is that these meetings have been happening at the residence of a senior Congress MP.
“The Telangana unit of the RLD is going to be a sub-regional party,” Singh said in Hyderabad.
On Sunday, the minister also held discussions with the Telangana joint action committee (JAC) and sought its support.
