Hyderabad: The Rashtriya Lok Dal is here to stay. The party has sought to muster the support of the people of Telangana to further their own cause, says Jayanth Chaudhary, RLD MP and son of Ajit Singh (Union Minister for Civil Aviation).

In an exclusive interview to Mahesh Avadhutha of The Hans India, he stated that the RLD, as a strong advocate of smaller states, had always been with the Telanagana movement, through its ups and downs.

He seeks to join the vanguard of the fight if needed even by supplementing the efforts of the key players such as the T- JAC.

What compelled Rashtriya Lok Dal to test the political waters in Andhra Pradesh particularly Telangana

I would not agree if anybody says that RLD is testing political waters in Telangana. We were able to connect with the people of the region long since. Even Chaudhary ji(referring to his dad Ajit Singh) is openly supporting the separate statehood cause right from 2003 when he attended the massive meeting organized by TRS in Warangal. He had even expressed his support on various platforms like Pan India, an organization that supported formation of smaller states. The neglect faced by Telangana in the last five decades is well known to everybody which was why RLD has decided to extend political support to the demand in a strong way.

The talk in political circles is that Congress influenced Ajit Singh’ s decision to foray into the state mainly to counter the KCR led Telangana Rashtra Samithi party?

Formation of new parties supporting Telangana should be seen as a positive outcome because it gives scope for the long-standing demand to be heard with more seriousness. One should understand that the movement is not about individuals.

General Elections are less than one and half years away. Are you looking at contesting all 119 assembly seats in Telangana?

Time is short but we plan to build a strong base for the party in the region. Results are bound to come for the hard work to be put in by us in the meantime. But what is encouraging is TRLD getting good response from the public here. I assure that our party would give more opportunities’ for the youth to raise a political voice wherever necessary.

As you are aware Telangana JAC is making continuous efforts to get pro-Telangana parties and public organizations onto a single platform in the battle for separate statehood. Are you ready to along work with it?

Telangana JAC is doing a commendable job in the movement since the last few years. TRLD is fully committed to Telangana and is very open to work along with T JAC for the achievement of the goal. Irrespective of T JAC inviting us or not, TRLD is willing to work with them in the future.

RLD’s political opponents in Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party forayed into Andhra Pradesh but could not make an impact. What measures you plan to take so that your party does not fall into the same category?

RLD is very different to the remaining two parties because Telangana is our single point agenda. SP is basically against smaller states so they could not relate with the people here.

And Bahujan Samaj Party could not focus much in the region because the then CM Mayawati was deeply rooted in law and order problems besides massive corruption allegations in her own state.

However, the TRLD is very clear on Telangana. In fact during a discussion held in Lok Sabha when TRS chief was on an indefinite fast in December 2009, I spoke on the subject and supported the statehood demand.
